Looking back but going forward

In this post, I want to explore some shots from previous weddings. I think it's fun to look back and remember how a lot of shots turned out. Coincidentally, there are all the prints that I ordered for the Pink Bride Bridal show coming this weekend. Exciting!

Above: This shot came from a progression of shots that I realized needed one more thing. Got this bench out and BAM!

One of my fave things to do is play with a wide angle lens. Above and below are both taken with the same lens but it's amazing how you can use it to take two different kinds of shots!

Above: I always try to have some fun with the bridal party...when everyone just lets down and has fun, magic happens.
Above: A lot of people don't realize how stressful first dance shots can be. This one was no different. Had to move under cover since it was raining which meant, not much room. I set the flash up and he gave me the perfect dip to shoot!
Above: Great couples make great photos! Again with the wide angle lens but decided to use the colors and buildings to funnel your eyes to them. Love it.
Above: Most of the time when you see cellphones and cameras out at a wedding, they are a nuisance. This time, I decided to use them and got this. I actually really love the cameras and phones this time.

Above: I know this was on a previous post but love it. Mainly b/c if you've been downtown, you've probably seen this alley and thought nothing of it. I love finding places people don't love and capturing something fun. Directly behind me was a dumpster!

Enagagements - first of many!

I'm going to start out 2013 Engagements with Elizabeth and Matt. These 2 are awesome! After shooting this session I'm REALLY looking forward to their amazing Memphis Wedding at Heartwood Hall in October. Along with some shots, here are my 5 main important aspects to an engagement session:

1. Think Ahead: Have an idea of a shot but don’t get caught up trying to replicate it. Get yourself something original!

2. Kissing: If you want a great kissing shot, it’s better to “almost” kiss.

3. Outfits: Wear what you’re comfortable in. If you feel like a rockstar then you’ll look like one!

4. Relax: If you feel nervous before your shoot, do what you would do to calm you. Drink some wine or jam to the radio.

5. Trust: Hopefully, you chose your photographer b/c you love their work, be open minded to the creativity.

The Beginning....the RINGS!

Since it's the beginning of the year, it seems like a great way to start with the first thing that most weddings have: the rings (well, at least the engagement ring but i'm not going to be TOO picky)

Here are my top 5 Ring shots from 2012:
This is pretty recent, and there are no effects added to make the shine. It was a gorgeous yellow diamond and the snow made me want to try something special.

I love this shot mainly b/c you're probably sitting there, wondering, "how are they standing up like that?!?" That's our secret!

This one is fun b/c of the location and the presence of God in their bond. This was taken at a little spot where everyone in the bridal part walked past a lot and no one saw this. I love finding interesting places to play.

This one is just a fun clean shot. Loved her shoes, haha.

Every set of rings deserve a different shot, it's just one of those things. LOVE the symmetry of this one.

The groom just went out and did an amazing job picking out a ring that you're going to wear for the rest of your life. When you get a gorgeous engagement ring, why not have gorgeous bands too?!? Don't forget, you can always see more HERE!

New Year, New BLOG!!

Memphis Wedding Photographer Rob Lyons Photography
I'll be the first to admit to being a HORRIBLE blogger but it's happening now. My goals on here are to show some of the best each wedding has had to offer as well as recommendations on what you should and should not do to make the day perfect. That isn't just timelines and such but preferred vendors, food ideas all the way down to the shoes for the Memphis Wedding market! Bam, yeah, it's happening! HAHA
